Neuromuscular Treatments for Managment of Head and Neck Pain (TMJD)
Many types of headaches, tooth grinding, facial pain and other problems are caused by misaligned jaw joints. Using the latest diagnostic techniques, including those related to neuromuscular dentistry, we offer treatment ranging from simple bite adjustment to more extensive treatment options.
When your jaw joints are misaligned, you may begin to experience TMJ symptoms due to the fact that your jaw-to-skull relationship is no longer ideal. Some symptoms may include jaw pain or soreness, earaches and headaches, tooth sensitivity, clicking noise when opening and closing your mouth, stiff jaw or locking of the jaw. Bruxism is a condition when a person clenches or grinds the teeth, and this can also cause more pain for the temporomandibular joint.
Dr. Mark recommends the clench test to determine if your jaws are positioned properly. By closing your teeth together and squeezing hard while your mouth is empty, you can determine if your bite is misaligned. If it is misaligned, you will feel discomfort in one or more of the teeth.
Dr. Mark will conduct a thorough examination to determine the best course of treatment. He will go over your health history with you and also take necessary X-rays and possibly conduct other diagnostic tests to evaluate your condition further. Once complete, Dr. Mark can then prescribe ways to reduce or eliminate your symptoms.
