This is the most frequently employed form of sedation dentistry and one of the easiest to administer to induce relaxation. Patients inhale a colorless and odorless gas for a few minutes and we can control the depth of sedation minute by minute. The patient returns to normal when the gas is stopped.
We can relieve dental anxiety without needles or intravenous tubes by administering prescription medication to calm your nerves. Many patients benefit from this form of sedation dentistry which involves taking anti-anxiety medication before your visit. You will feel very calm throughout your visit and will still feel drowsy for a few hours afterwards.
Patients who need to undergo advanced dental treatments or more in-depth procedures may be good candidates for IV dental sedation. We have found it is very effective for patients with moderate to severe dental anxiety. Sedative drugs are administered intravenously and we monitor the patient the entire time. Even though the patient is awake throughout the procedure, most do not remember much after their visit and will want to sleep for a few hours after treatment.
